The Challenge
A returning portfolio client who InStyle has furnished many rental homes for entrusted InStyle to transform two bathrooms in their private high-end Hyde Park residence. Testament to InStyle Direct’s high-quality work and ability to work with varying budgets, this project focused on the complete refurbishment of the client's bathrooms in their private home. InStyle provided an elevated, heritage-luxury aesthetic that matched the rest of the house and its prime London location. InStyle worked with high-end suppliers to deliver innovative, high-end finishes and solutions that extended to the latest luxuries such as Japanese toilets.
Key challenges included:
- Creating two distinct yet cohesive design schemes with a nod to heritage inspiration while delivering a modern, luxurious result that’s in-keeping with the client’s existing design.
- Managing material and supplier selection since the client was unavailable for site visits. This involved a deep level of trust from the client, who, given the number of successful portfolio projects we have completed for their rental portfolio, was confident we understood their brief.
- Working with a longstanding client and with a larger budget provided a broader scope of opportunities yet called for specific homeowner interior knowledge. InStyle Direct is uniquely positioned working with homeowners and investors, making us the natural choice for this client.
Our Approach
1. Refined Concepts with Cultural Depth
Drawing inspiration from the Imperial Hotel’s tea room in India, InStyle’s interior designer Anna designed the guest bathroom to capture a sense of colonial-era grandeur with a contemporary edge. The rich, forest green vertical tiles and deep wood vanity served as an extension of the mood of the hotel’s traditional panelled interiors. Brushed brass fittings added warmth and sophistication, mirroring the metal accents seen throughout the space of inspiration.
2. Spa-Inspired En-Suite Design
The en-suite took cues from boutique hotel spas, with a soothing, minimal colour palette of warm neutrals and soft marble greys. A standout fluted feature wall behind the vanity created soft visual rhythm, while a floating marble-effect vanity and brass detailing tied the space back to the overarching theme of refined luxury. Ambient lighting from the backlit mirror added softness and serenity.
3. Supplier Sourcing & Material Selection
With the client off-site, our team made multiple trips to trusted, high-end suppliers, including:
- Mandarin Stone floor and wall finishes
- Lusso Stone for sanitaryware and brassware
- COAT Paints for the perfect warm neutrals and crisp finishes.
- Our hands-on sourcing process ensured quality control at every step while keeping the aesthetic consistent with the client’s refined brief.
4. Budget Management
Although working within a large budget, InStyle is adept at knowing where to save to allow for the expenditure of money in the right areas. We prioritised high-impact features such as fluted wall and brass detailing while making cost-effective choices in background finishes and tile formats. Strategic specification of long-lasting materials allowed us to achieve a finish that felt far more luxurious than the numbers suggest.
